Overview

The 2010 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class is a four-door, seven-passenger luxury sport utility vehicle. Mainly a carryover model from 2009, the GL-Class comes in three trim levels - GL 350 BlueTEC, GL 450 and GL 550. For 2010, the GL320 BlueTEC has been renamed as GL350 BlueTEC. All models have received a refreshed styling with LED rear lights, new front and rear bumpers, new wheel designs and optional LED daytime running lights.

Powertrain And Performance

The GL350 BlueTEC gets a 210-horsepower, 3.0-liter 24-valve BlueTEC clean diesel V-6 engine. The GL450 is equipped with a 335-horsepower 4.6-liter V-8 engine. The new GL550 trim is motivated by a bigger 5.5-liter 32-valve V8 engine that produces 382 horsepower. All GL-Class models come with a standard seven-speed automatic transmission and 4MATIC 4-wheel drive. The EPA estimated fuel economy figures stand at 17/23 (GL350 BlueTEC), 13/18 (GL450) and 13/17 (GL550) city/highway mpg. When second- and third-row seats are lowered, 83.3 cubic feet of trunk space is available.

Build And Styling

Every GL-Class model comes with standard features and systems designed to enhance every drive with performance, luxury and security - from automatic light-sensing headlamps, LED tail lamps and rain-sensing wipers to the 13-way protection of nine standard air bags. Crisp lines, new tail lamps and optional Daytime Running Lamps that enhance the visibility with long-lasting LEDs make up the GL-Class' exterior. The redesigned 19-, 20- or 21-inch wheels, additional brushed aluminum accents, and new stainless-steel front and rear skid plates all add to its continuing appeal. The GL-Class scores high in both roominess and luxury. The 7-seat cabin features heated 8-way power front seats, 50/50 split third row that power-folds flat at the touch of a button, and dual-zone or optional 3-zone climate control, 6-disc DVD/CD changer, there's something for everyone to enjoy. A hands-free Bluetooth interface, 4-way power lumbar support and a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel deliver comfort and control are among the other key features.

Safety Features

Nine standard air bags offer 13-way protection. There are window curtain air bags for all three seating rows and a knee air bag further protects the driver. The standard NECK?PRO active front head restraints help to reduce whiplash injuries in a rear impact. The POST-SAFE system can automatically turn on the hazard flashers and interior lights, unlock the doors and shut off the engine after a collision. Every GL-Class features the exclusive PRE-SAFE system.
